St. Jude’s School celebrates India’s 75th Independence Day

15th August, 1947, a date no Indian can ever forget, is the day of freedom which brings happiness to every Indian heart. This day arouses a feeling of patriotism in every heart and fills it with pride as the National Flag is hoisted to honour the historical day.
The Tricolour flag reminds us to appreciate the sacrifices of those who laid their lives for the motherland.
The 75th Independence Day was celebrated at St. Jude’s School with triumph and glory. The students and staff gathered around the National Flag. The ambience was beautiful as the stage was decorated with tricolour balloons and doves.
As the Principal Mrs. V.R. Gardner hoisted the National Flag to signify the rise of a new nation, free from colonial domination, all sang the National Anthem with a sense of pride on being part of a great nation.
The celebration began with a song ‘Ae mere watan ke logon…’ sung by Shraddha Chakraborty, originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
The head Boy Rishabh Khuntia in his speech stressed on the duties and responsibilities of every Indian citizen.
St. Jude’s Schools team of dancers presented ‘Thapattam’, a very old traditional folk dance from the villages of Tamil Nadu. In ancient times, ‘Thapattam’ was used to gather the villagers to convey some important messages like the beginning of war and announcement of victory.
The Head Girl Anishka Karki, in her speech spoke about how the ‘Azadi Ka Mahotsav’ is celebrated in a different manner after every 25 years. This year the theme of this celebration is ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’. She implored all to always remember the sacrifices of the great people who brought us freedom.
The School Choir sang a patriotic song ‘Bharat Humko Jaan se pyara hai…’
The Principal, Mrs. V.R. Gardner in her address spoke about the happiness of Independence when she was a child herself, how India has developed in all aspects. We need to appreciate and enjoy life in our free motherland and be good human beings. She also spoke about pollution and global warming and urged the students to make India green.
The auditorium reverberated with the National Anthem and all the students soon returned home with chocolates in their hands and smiles on their faces.
