The Theme for our One Act Plays this year was to depict on stage an Award winning book, play, documentary or serial from the years 2000-2008. Howard House staged the play ‘Little Terrorist’. Little Terrorist is a 2004 Indian short film. It revolves around Jamal a 10 year old Pakistani Muslim boy, while playing cricket near the Indo Pakistan Border, his cricket ball is tossed over to the Indian side of the border separated by a fence. Jamal crosses the fence to fetch the ball. He is spotted by the Indian security forces. He hides in an Indian village and is provided shelter by Bhola, a devout Hindu Brahmin. Jamal eventually manages to return to Pakistan. Gardner House depicted ‘The Boy in striped Pyjamas’. Bruno is the 8 years old son of the commandant at a concentration camp during World War – II. His friendship with a Jewish boy he meets across the fence leads to unexpected consequences. It is a 2006 Holocaust novel by Irish novelist John Boyne. Gladiator 2000 is a historical drama film and was very well brought alive by the young actors of Khanna House in which Hispano Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius who is betrayed when Commodus the ambitious son of Emperor Marcus Aurelius murders his father and seizes the throne. Reduced to slavery Maximus rises through the rank of the gladiatorial arena to avenge the murders of his family and his Emperor. ‘12 years a slave’ by Lyons House brought tears to the eyes of everyone. It is based on an incredible true story of one Man’s fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-civil war United States, Solomon Northup a free black man from upstate New York is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty as well as unexpected kindness, Solomon struggles to stay alive to retain his dignity. In the 12th years of his unforgettable Odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist forever alters his life. The plays were adjudged by our Principal Mrs. V.R. Gardner and our Vice Principal Ms. M. Gardner. The acting skills of the students generated a thunderous applause from the audience. The pent-up energy, enthusiasm and innate talents of the students erupted in the form of brilliant acting skills and theatrical performances. Gardner house secured the 1st position. Lyons house came second and third position went to Howard house. Akshat Kumar of Lyons House won the best actor’s award. Aradhya Gurung of Gardner House won the best actress award. Though organised on a small scale, the programme comprised all the essential ingredients of an entertaining morning. It indeed not only showcased the tremendous talent of our children but also acted as a stress buster providing much relief to them in the midst of their busy studying session. Our Principal appreciated the hard work and effort put in by both our Teachers and Students.
