A literature festival, is an event celebrating literature, writing, and reading. Literary fests bring together readers, writers, publishers, and book lovers to celebrate literature, foster a love for reading, and encourage literary discussions. Our students of Class Xl of St. Jude's School also witnessed one of such incredible literature festival held on 10th of November, 2024 organised at Doon International School, Dehradun.
The first session was on Shivani-the iron lady of the hills award which was given to Manjula Rana for her outstanding contribution to literature and arts.
In a session on 'Streevad aur Samaaj', the panel of renowned writers of Dehradun discussed on women's empowerment and their upliftment. Then there was a Keynote Address on Education and society by Abhinav Kumar, the youngest DGP of Uttarakhand who shared his inspiring journey and the need of right kind of education for making a balanced and harmonious society.
In another session Learning Reimagined The New Age Education Blueprint there was a discussion among the learned educationists from varied backgrounds like Colonel Gopal Karunakaran, Jayshree Periwal, Dr. Sanjay Kumar who spoke on thirst for learning and knowledge and one needs to think out of the box beyond their academic curriculum for incredible changing times. They emphasized on holistic growth of the children while staying connected with their roots and cultural values.
Apart from this, there was a workshop on Songwriting for music lovers by Harish Budhwani, where St.Judes kids participated. He taught them how songs are no different from poems; in fact, they are a subpart of poetry. They don’t follow a particular pattern but are about letting feelings flow, without needing to rhyme. Children actually had a fun time in this workshop, which included several activities. They were given five minutes to write a poem telling a story about something they noticed around them. Later, they were asked to think of a word and write a poem related to it. By the end of the session, each of them had written two songs. The workshop concluded with Harish Budhwani singing a self-composed song.
Another session they attended was about storytelling by Hemant Deolekar, Neha Singh, Laksh Maheshwari and Shefali Chopra. They told them the basics of writing a story. It is an essential skill used in marketing, social media, and beyond to create empathy, convey messages, and shape perceptions. storytelling is transformative, leaving a lasting impact on those who experience it.
This literary fest held at DIS gave students a great opportunity to learn and explore the beautiful world of literature.
