Earth Day Celebration at St. Jude’s School – Pre-Nursery and Nursery Theme: Nature Explorer
Posted on: 22 April 2025
At St. Jude’s School, the Earth Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the youngest members of our School family—our Pre-Nursery and Nursery Students. Centered around the theme “Nature Explorer,” the celebration aimed to instill in our little learners a sense of wonder, love, and responsibility towards the environment. The objective was to help children connect with the natural world, recognize its beauty, and take simple, kind actions to care for our Earth.
The day began with an Introduction Circle, where teachers explained the Earth Day —what it is, why we celebrate it, and the importance of taking care of our planet. Children eagerly participated in the discussion, developing early awareness of their role in protecting nature.
Next, the children were taken for a Nature Walk around the School garden. Armed with small buckets, they collected natural objects such as leaves, flowers, twigs, and stones. This walk allowed them to engage their five senses and observe the beauty and variety in the natural world around them.
Back in the Classroom, Students used their collected items for a Nature Art Activity. They created a beautiful collage work using the gathered materials, promoting creativity, sensory exploration, and fine motor skills development.
One of the most joyful moments was the Planting Activity, where children sowed seeds in small pots. They watered the seeds and gently covered them with soil. This hands-on experience not only supported their motor skills but also nurtured a love and respect for nature.
Adding an element of fun and movement, children also participated in a “Water the Plants” Race, where they carried small cups of water and carefully walked to water a potted plant at the finish line. This exciting game helped develop balance, coordination, and the understanding of plant care.
The celebration also included a unique craft activity titled “Crumble & Create: My Earth Plate.” Children used crumbled paper to design a representation of Earth on a paper plate, allowing them to express their creativity while understanding the planet’s form and colors.
Later in the day, Students gathered for Story Time, where the story “The Luna and the Magic Seed” was shared with colorful visuals as a visual aid in the Activity Centre.
By the end of the session, each child took home his/her own plant—a living symbol of their role as a young Earth guardian. The day concluded with a cheerful Earth Day Pledge, where Students promised to take small yet impactful steps each day to protect and care for our planet.
The “Nature Explorer” celebration was a meaningful and memorable experience, planting not just seeds in pots—but the seeds of environmental consciousness in the hearts of our young learners.
