RENDEZVOUS – INTER HOUSE SENIOR EXTEMPORE ENGLISH DEBATE

Debates are academic activities that give Students a creative platform to express what they feel. The length and breadth of knowledge that they gain through this is simply unparalled.
In view of this, the Rendezvous Senior School Inter House English Extempore Debate was organised on the 11th of May, 2023.
There were 8 contestants in all. The topic for the Debate was Artificial Intelligence is a threat to Humanity. An hour was given to the contestants to prepare the Debate and the time limit for each speaker was 4 minutes with a rebuttal round of approx. 1 minute that followed each speech.
The Competition was adjudged by our Principal Ms. M. Gardner and the Director, Mrs. V.R. Gardner. The debating session was skillfully handled by the Master of Ceremony,Mrs. N. Mehra and the Time Keeper, Mr. Amitosh Singh.
The session was a Kaleidoscope of opinions, thoughts and perspective that enhanced one’s knowledge and understanding about Artificial Intelligence.
The teams undoubtedly were well prepared and convinced the audience with their beliefs and views. The participants were armed with appropriate statistics and data and made their arguments.
Aditi Sehgal from Lyons House spoke Against the Motion, and came First.
Diya Vats from Lyons House, spoke For the Motion and came Second.
Ananya Bisht and Mohd. Adnan Zia from Khanna House stood 3rd.
Our Principal Ms. M. Gardner while addressing the audience highlighted the positives as well as the negative impact of Artificial Intelligence. She said Artificial Intelligence should be used effectively but policies should be made to ensure Artificial Intelligence does not harm anyone.
In the Group Discussion Session 12 Contestants took part. It is an activity which indeed enhances the communicating skills and boost the confidence of the speakers by engaging and encouraging them to voice their opinion. We saw a very effective exchange of views by the participants on the given topic, The role of Social Media in shaping our Opinion.
The Group Discussion was anchored by Mrs. Geetanjali Arya and the scores were tallied by Mr. Rakesh Singh. Anuj Kapoor from Howard House bagged the position of Initiator. Mohd. Adnan Zia Khan from Khanna House was declared to be the leader. There was a tie between Howard House and Khanna House for the First Position. Gardner House stood Second and Lyons House came Third.
Overall, the event today was a resounding success and all the participants were praised for their hardwork, perseverance and dedication.
