Day 2 - Inter School Debate, Art, Mega Poster, Science Project, Photography and Dehradun has Talent Contest

The Annual Academic and Creative Festival ‘Mindspree’ organised by St. Jude’s School witnessed many a keenly contested Competitions on the 13th of August 2022. The day began with an English Extempore Debate, Art and Mega Poster Competition, Science Project, Photography and Dehradun has Talent Contest.
The Schools that participated in various events were Ann Mary School, Shri Ram Centennial School, St. Thomas’ College, Carman School Dalanwala, The Heritage School, Doon Cambridge School, The Presidency International School, Wynberg Allen School, Touch Wood School, Doon Blossoms, Summer Valley School & St. Jude’s School.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Maanas Lal, a photographic artist, a best-selling author, public speaker and a musician.
The occasion was graced by Mrs. V.R. Gardner, Principal, St. Jude’s School, Ms. Michelle Gardner, Vice Principal, St. Jude’s School, Mrs. & Mr. Lawless, Ms. Geraldine Banon, teachers and the participants from the various schools.
The two days event endorsed cut throat Competition amongst highly proficient Contestants.
In the Mega Poster Competition, the young artist coloured white canvasses with a spectrum of colours and gave vent to their imagination depicting their perception of today or the present.
The theme for the Individual Art Category-A was, Reflection and Category-B was to portray, an ideal world.
The Contest was adjudged by Mr. Bhumesh Bharti, Ms. Amita Ahuja and Mr. Zakir Hussain. In the Mega Poster Contes, there was a tie between Doon Blossoms School and St. Jude’s School they both won the first position. Ann Mary School bagged the Third position.
In the Individual Art Category-B (Class I- VIII), Nandini Naudiyal from St. Thomas’ College won the first prize, Pragya Khanduri from Touch Wood School came second and Varnika Bhatt from St. Jude’s School came third.
In the Individual Art Category-A (Class IX-XII), Taranpreet Kaur from Shri Ram Centennial School bagged the first position, Maithili Garg from Ann Mary School stood second, Ashmit Singh from The Presidency International School attained the third position.
In the Science Project the exhibits by the young amateur scientists from different schools were indeed eye openers. They presented models that endeavoured to make the world a better place. The working models were adjudged by Mrs. Shivani Khanduri and Ms. Shivani Bahuguna from Summer Valley School and The Asian School respectively. Paridhi Garg and Simran Sharma from St. Thomas’ College presented a working model on an Energy Efficient Smart City and earned the first position. Kanika Bansal and Olivia Mary Raj from Wynberg Allen School presented an Integrated Biometric Device and stood Second. Pranshu Badola and Aarohan Rajgopal from Shri Ram Centennial School presented Natures Treasures bagged the Third Position.
In the Photography Contest the participants were told pictures has the ability to communicate a thousand words. Students were asked to take two photographs and depict Culture, as well as togetherness and joy. Each team comprised of 2 photographers and 4 actors/models. Mr. Bhumesh Bharti, Ms. Amita Ahuja and Mr. Zakir Hussian judged the Contest. The team from Summer School won the photography contest. St. Jude’s School stood second and the team from Carman School, Dalanwala grabbed the third position.
To explore the limitless talent, The Dehradun has talent Contest invited students who are YouTubers or had conducted Podcasts or had been recognised on Twitter or Instagram. Mr. Neal Gardner judged the event. Neal, has a Twitter page on Football. Both Contestants were magicians, Anurag Yadav amazed the spectators with his amazing skills. He has also featured in America has got Talent. Naman Singh has a YouTube channel of his own. We hope more children participate in this event in the coming years. In this Talent hunt, Anurag Yadav from Wynberg Allen School bagged first position and Naman Singh from St. Jude’s School stood Second.
With the aim of promoting research and articulation of thought an Extempore Debate Competition was organised. The topic of Debate was, This House believes that India is on the same path of Economic Distress as Sri Lanka.
Students were given an hour for the preparation. In this stiffly contested debate, 5 teams displayed great oratorical skills. The Schools that participated in the Debate were Summer Valley School, Ann Mary School, Wynberg Allen School, St. Thomas’ School and St. Jude’s School.
The Debate was judged by Mrs. V. Kalia, Mr. Amit Gambhir and Mr. Nitish Bidala. The Team from Summer Valley School were declared Winners while the team from Ann Mary School were our First Runners up. The Team from St. Jude’s School were our Second Runners Up. Pratyush Kakkar from Summer Valley School was declared the Best Speaker. Ira Wasan from Ann Mary School was the Second Best Speaker and Hansika from Wynberg Allen School was declared the Third Best Speaker.
The soulful rendition of songs like ‘Ghar morae Pardesia’ and “Char Kadam” made the event memorable.
The Chief Guest gave away the prize and, in his address, he appreciated the oratory skills and the calibre of all the speakers. He gave tips that will help them enhance their debating skills.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. V.R. Gardner, Principal, St. Jude’s School.
